On Tuesday, June 28th, Garibaldi Springs Golf Resort, Rostrum Developments Ltd. and SeeSwing hosted the 1st Annual Sea to Sky Realtor's Invitational Whack & Slash golf tournament at Garibaldi Springs Golf Resort.
What would it take for Realtor's to bring their 'circle of influence' to bear on BC's newest most Naturally Challenging "eco-golf" experience? It was decided that an "outdoor recreation" office on the course, combined with an incentive to bring clients, friends, family & guests, and an opportunity to enjoy the full experience first hand was the answer. Realtor's enjoyed the fun and excitement of a shotgun tournament while familiarizing themselves with the challenge and beauty of the Garibaldi Springs Golf Resort. Dinner was served on the beautiful deck overlooking the 18th hole. "This course is first class! Every hole is breathtaking and the natural habitat sets itself apart from other courses. The location is a perfect place to meet clients halfway between Vancouver and Whistler. I will be visiting and bringing my clients as often as possible." Maggi Thornhill - Sea to Sky Premier Properties, Whistler, BC "We are in the business of selling the 'lifestyle' here, and what better way can we do that but to 'lead by example'. This course will not only take my golf game to the next level, and develop my client/business relationships, today demonstrates a powerful exchange of 'corporate goodwill.' Simon Hudson - Remax/Sea to Sky Real Estate, Squamish, BC. "Relationships are everything and word of mouth is the most powerful marketing tool" stated Gerry Halstrom on behalf of Garibaldi Springs Developments Ltd. |

Tips from a Proby Tony Vogel, CPGA Professional Many amateur golfers do not realize that 65% of their total score will come from taking shots from roughly 65 yards away from the pin, and closer to it. That being said if the goal for your golf game is to shoot lower scores then practicing from 65 yards and in, would be your best bet. My recommendation would be to start with putting! Many people do not realize that the Tour Professionals only make 50% of their putts from six feet. From nine feet it goes down to 20% and even lower the farther they get away from the hole. You will only encounter 3 different kinds of putts on any round of golf.
|
|
If you practice the three kinds of putts you will notice lower overall scores. The next thing I would suggest working on is chip shots or low running shots around the green. Again, if you are a good short putter then give yourself roughly 8 feet to work with (4 feet on either side of the hole) when you are chipping the ball to the hole. The only way you will be able to get the ball up and down consistently is if you leave yourself an achievable 2 - 4 foot putt.
Finally, I would suggest working on pitch shots or higher lofted shots that do not roll as much. As you increase the length of your back swing you will start to see the ball fly further. If you are able to hit shots from roughly 65 yards to your target and never need more than 3 shots from this distance, you will see your scores come down dramatically. Occasionally, you will only need 2 shots from this distance by either holing a long putt, or hitting the approach so close that you can knock the putt in consistently. The great South African golfer Gary Player, once noted that, "if an amateur who usually scores 85 were to have a tour player as their caddy to hit the close shots around the green, the 85 amature would turn into a 75 golfer." There is every reason why, with some focused practice on your golf game from 65 yards and in, you can achieve a dramatic reduction in your overall score. |
