Rules Review

RCGA Rule 10 (Order of Play)

When Starting Play: The competitor who has the honour at the first teeing ground is determined by the order of draw or in absence of a draw, the honour is decided by lot.
The competitor with the lowest score at a hole takes the honour at the next teeing ground. The competitor with the second lowest score plays next and so on

During play of the hole: After the competitors have started play of the hole, the ball farthest from the hole is played first

Do you know your golf etiquette?

Pace of Play:

  • Players should play at a good pace. At Garibaldi Springs we like to see a pace of play of 3.5hrs per round
  • It is a group's responsibility to keep up with the group in front. If it loses a clear hole it is delaying the group behind, it should invite the group behind to play through, irrespective of the number of players in that group.
  • Play ready golf, everyone in a group should stand by their own ball and be ready to play it as soon as the player before them has hit.
  • Do not spend too much time looking for golf balls in lateral hazards or out of bounds areas. This can really slow up play.
  • It is not necessary to mark your ball on the green for every putt. If the ball is not obstructing another players putt, and is not dirty then there is no need to mark your ball

Correction: In last months issue of the Insider we incorrectly defined the teeing ground as being 1 club length back fro the tee blocks. It is actually 2 club lengths back. We have taken our rules expert out back of the Golf Shop and flogged him with a copy of the RCGA rules.
